THE NEED FOR SELF-HELP PHYSICAL THERAPY

When you look at the statistics it doesn’t take long to work out that our current approach towards fitness and pain-relief is just not working! ACC reminds us that at some point in our life 80% of us will experience pain and that 60% to 80% of this pain will be reoccurring. These high percentages tell us three things: 1) that we’re not using our bodies correctly and 2) that our mainstream fitness programs are ineffective and 3) that specialist therapy is only providing temporary relief.

Most episodes of pain are due to relatively minor trauma doing everyday things not major accidents as you might think! It’s the regular habits that we live into each day that create our problems. Specialists now tell us that using a muscle after an injury is important or we will lose functionality, so we turn to exercise as a solution without knowing that 97% of the fitness programs available are counterproductive and in many cases only promote further injury. The problem lies not necessarily with the fitness programs available (although when you learn FutureGym you will see where other programs can be improved) it lies within the resting positions of our deep musculature skeleton. Mostly we are so imbalanced before we start exercising that regardless of the activity we perform we are guaranteed to recreate an injury or create a new one. Sadly no attention to postural and movement detail or brain response reprogramming is practiced in mainstream fitness programs or taught in our schools and as a result we end up further out of alignment and deeper into pain.

The best approach we can take towards being in our best physical state and preventing & repairing injury is to ensure that our muscles are working accurately in balance. This can only happen when our skeleton is in correct alignment and when we have restored full functionality into our muscular system. Regardless of what activity or non-activity that brings us to FutureGym one common goal is shared by everyone who arrives at this site "We need to employ a self-help physical-therapy approach towards fitness or nothing will change!"

Even if you do find a therapist who is able to give you temporary relief following an injury you still need to identify what promoted your injury in the first place. Only then can you practice corrective action to reduce the chance of the injury happening again. And you can only spend so much time with your therapist! Eventually you’ll need to take self-responsibility, become your own physical-therapist and practice self-help therapy. At FutureGym we believe this is the best approach you can take because only when you live into new daily habits will positive change occur.

At FutureGym we have created a highly effective set of exercises suitable for everyday use regardless of your age and fitness level.

WHY DO WE NEED THIS ATTENTION TO DETAIL?

You can’t create a perfect body unless you look at the body in detail! Exactly where have you lost freedom of movement? What misbalances have occurred as a result? Where are you out of alignment? What dominant muscles or further skeletal-misbalances have followed to compensate? There’s only one direction the body moves once it's out of alignment and that’s further out of alignment unless you correct it. The only way to correct musculoskeletal imbalances is to assess the body in precise detail and reprogram brain and muscle response patterns to turn on and off correctly.

All sorts of things become clear for the very first time when you learn and practice FutureGym exercise. You notice areas that require your attention; like a decline in one foot arch, a knee turning inwards, an over-developed calf muscle, a hip dropping downwards, less space and movement in one hip socket, your pelvis slanted backwards, rigidity in your lower spine, tight lower back muscles, short breathing, oxygen deprived muscles that do not lengthen easily and this is only the start of it! Physical deformities stand out loud and clear when you practice FutureGym exercise which incorporates body-line symmetrics in every position for accurate diagnosis and correction.

It’s a good thing to find physical misbalances and to correct them because when the body is out of alignment the weight-bearing load redistributes itself and dominant muscles develop as a result which only creates further problems. The older we get the more obvious problems become. Traditional fitness programs don’t deliver the attention to detail the body needs which goes towards explaining why so few gym programs deliver the results they promise; ie.: the majority of people go for three months and then give up. FutureGym exercise enables you to identify all areas of misbalance and restriction; areas that will lead to injury or surgery if not addressed by you directly and personally. At FutureGym we encourage you to be ‘anatomy-smart’. We say "take preventative action, realign, rebalance and correct your own body, reduce risk of injury and improve the quality and duration of your life".

In addition to addressing injury recovery and prevention FutureGym exercise works fast to sculpt your body into beautiful form. Much like a body tailor making adjustments to a bodysuit, you’ll have fat to deal with in some places, muscle toning and lifting to do in others, length to bring into some muscles and relaxation to promote in others. All of this and more is possible with the high-attention to detail that's included in FutureGym exercise.

Think of your body like a piece of clay waiting to be transformed and use FutureGym exercise to sculpt your body into it’s best form - It’s that simple!

WHERE DO MAINSTREAM FITNESS PROGRAMS FAIL?

If we look at the operational methods of some of the more popular fitness disciplines available today it’s not difficult to see why only 3% of fitness programs deliver the results they promise. Fitness programs such as weight-training, aerobics, pilates and yoga are mostly counterproductive because our musculoskeletal system is mostly so imbalanced before we start that regardless of the activity we perform we end up disillusioned and depressed because we don’t see the results we are looking for.

We are told that we need exercise to be agile and pain-free but in most cases because we are so far out of alignment exercise only takes us further out of alignment and deeper into pain. Remember the only direction a body follows once it’s out of alignment is further out of alignment unless we take the necessary steps to correct it.

Performing exercise which has no specific anatomy-based attention to detail develops false attitudes towards posture and movement and false loads which lead to joint and muscle damage. Injuries are further enhanced with watch me copy me fitness routines (common in most group class and gym environments) where little or no attention to detail is given. It doesn’t matter what exercise we practice when we pay no attention to postural and movement detail our results are unreliable, unpredictable, ineffective and risky.

Every specialist agrees we need to keep using an area after an injury and to re-train our muscles how to turn on and off effectively. The only way in which we can do this safely and reliably is to perform movements that are no bigger than the muscle contraction itself. Anything larger than this is risky! Remember muscle memory after an injury? Most people who have experienced injury are afraid to use the area again especially during the recovery process which can take months or years in some cases in fear that pain will return. Performing exercises that require range of motion in movement after we have experienced injury is asking for trouble, yet if we do not use the muscle after injury we lose functionality, resulting in increased strain in other areas of our body (the areas that are now supporting our misbalanced weight). We remain in an injury spiral. Are you beginning to understand now why *60% to 80% of our injuries are reoccurring? (*ACC).

Ask yourself: Why do most gyms today have a physiotherapist on site and why are 90% of them using exercises based on range of motion for rehabilitation when we know that this style of exercise keeps us in pain? If the exercise programs offered were specific for your body’s needs the reality is you wouldn’t be needing a physiotherapist and if the physical education delivered did in fact create positive change, you wouldn’t be needing a gym. You could just keep your diet under control, practice a few essential exercises as daily conditioning therapy, take a few walks or dance for cardiovascular health and you’d remain in beautiful form for the rest of your life! This is the basis of FutureGym - It's time you stopped doing the things that aren't working!

There’s only one way in which a muscle can restore functionality following an injury or misbalance and that is when the muscle is relaxed. The muscle can only relax when the exercises performed require no range of motion and are non-impact. With this in mind FutureGym provides over 80 therapeutic exercises that work the body from head to toe in a gentle relaxed and stationary manner. This is the only method in which you can identify ‘your true ability and comfort range’ and stay 100% safe throughout your activity.

FutureGym takes a sensible approach towards injury repair and injury prevention and a fresh new look at fast accurate body-sculpting. The three-dimensional working method built into this style of exercise makes traditional fitness programs look outdated, ineffective and risky. No other program comes close to delivering the same benefits you'll see and feel when practicing FutureGym exercise. Here follows some of our favourites.
